Utopian response to eco-crises? Collective houses, anarchism and permaculture

Oct 4, 2014 @ 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Urban Permaculture

On a global scale, ecosystems and consequently social systems, are in rapid decline. How best to respond to these global crises is a source of on-going debate. Through a multi-media, interactive presentation, these workshops critically investigate the utopian-inspired response of collective houses that practice anarchist theories and permaculture design principles. A central focus of this workshop is the relationship between ecosystems and society and how it is being re-imagined by folks in the collective housing community.

Through multi-media presentation and facilitated discussion, we will explore our own relationships to the ecosystems that support us and all life on the planet. Second, we will examine the alternative eco-social relationships theorized by specific strains of anarchism and permaculture. You will leave this presentation with new ideas on how humans could or should relate to each other, to other species, and to ecosystems in an age of impending eco-crises. Dialogue, questions and commentary will follow.
