*Gowanus Open Studio Hours:

While Kanawa and Kato have been buddies since high school and now both based in New York, they have been developing and pursuing different styles and subjects in artwork. Kanawa tries to deconstruct and recreate Japanese traditional black-ink paintings using brilliant colors and bold composition inspired by what he found in New York streets. Kato explores his interest in blending and juxtaposing contemporary graphics and classic artwork such as antique portrait photos, which he picked up from local thrift shops.
