Truman Capote and the Lost Photographs of David Attie: A Conversation and Reading with Randy Kennedy, Eli Attie, and Mary Louise Parker
Sep 15, 2016 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm| FREE
When Eli Attie shook the dust off a long forgotten folder found in his parents’ home, he had no idea its contents would reveal the story that launched his late father’s photography career. Join Attie, led in conversation by Randy Kennedy of The New York Times, as he recounts his discovery that Truman Capote, the burgeoning literary star, championed the work of David Attie, the photographer who illustrated his seminal essay, Brooklyn: A Personal Memoir. Following the discussion, actress Mary-Louise Parker reads from the essay, an ode to the Brooklyn Heights of an era gone by.
Following the program, BHS’s new exhibition Truman Capote’s Brooklyn: the Lost Photographs of David Attie, will be on view, which showcases original images of Capote, W.E.B. DuBois, and scenes of Brooklyn daily life in the late 1950s.
