Tristan Perich: Three Improvisations
Dec 3, 2015 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm| $20
Roulette is delighted to welcome experimental composer Tristan Perich to the stage for an evening of three solo improvisations on piano and 1-bit electronics. Inspired by the massive physicality and directness of the sound-making mechanism, Perich’s first instrument, the piano, informs his work with low-fi electronics. The first set will be a solo piano improvisation followed by a second solo improvisation on 1-bit tones using hand-built electronics. The performance will conclude with an improvisation of 1-bit noise from his ongoing Noise Patterns project. The evening will mark Perich’s first solo presentation of this kind and first performance on solo piano in over seven years.
Perich’s work is inspired by the aesthetic simplicity of math, physics and code. His 2004 release, 1-Bit Music, was the first album ever released as a microchip and programmed to synthesize electronic composition in a live setting. Perich’s latest circuit album, 1-Bit Symphony (Physical Editions) was the subject of much critical acclaim, hailed as “sublime” by New York Press and an “intense, hypnotic force and a surprising emotional depth” from The Wall Street Journal. Described by The WIRE Magazine as “an austere meeting of electronic and organic,” Perich’s compositions have been presented around the world at Sonar, Ars Electronica, The Museum of Modern Art, and bitforms gallery.
