THERE’S MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE BEHIND GREEN-WOOD’S MAUSOLEUMS

May 17, 2014 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

| $20 and $15 for members
GW Trolley- credit Robert Denbo

More than 700 mausoleums grace Green-Wood’s vast landscape and are the final resting places for scores of prominent New Yorkers. Ranging in style from Egyptian Revival to Italian Romanesque and from Beaux Arts to Moorish, Green-Wood’s mausoleums provide a virtual history of American architecture – in miniature form. In fact, many of permanent residents of these opulent mausoleums employed the same architects for both their grand earthly homes and their post-mortem residences.

Join expert guide Ruth Edebohls for a look at the extraordinary architectural designs hidden within Green-Wood’s rolling hills. The trolley tour will include structures by famed architects Ernest Flagg, Richard Upjohn and Son, Stanford White and more.

The trolley tour is $20 and $15 for members of the Green-Wood Historic Fund and the Brooklyn Historical Society. Reservations are recommended. If the trolley tour is not sold out, walk-ups will be accommodated on a first-come-first-served basis. To make an online reservation or to find out more information, visit www.green-wood.com/toursevents or call 718-210-3080.
