Join The Way Station for our 4th Annual Mardi Gras Extravaganza complete with red-hot bands, beads, and our Get Phat Tuesday Abita Beer specials on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 from 8PM-12AM. At 9:30PM, we invite you to shake your ass in a Second Line down Washington Avenue before the Lenten season begins. The evening includes music by A Flying Dodo Society, The Nevermind Orchestra, & Gloria Isaiah, three bands that will be sure to get those cold winter feet dancing. There’s never a cover at The Way Station, but we do have a $5 suggested donation per set.
The Mardi Gras Extravaganza jumps off at 8PM with jungle-pop anti-folk crooners A Flying Dodo Society, a husband-wife-and-friend Brooklyn-based music project. With members from Argentina, Puerto Rico and the United States, they perform playful melodic songs about love, nature, cannibalism and absurdity. Expect an interactive musical experience complete with sing alongs, bubbles and sparklers. From 9-11PM, nine piece Grunge Brass Band The Nevermind Orchestra will play two sets of New Orleans-style brass, reinterpreting the Nirvana catalog. They will begin their set indoors and then take it outside for a Second Line down Washington Avenue at 9:30PM. Revelers will bob their shaggy manes to power chords and rock beats, fused with traditional second line grooves resulting in bold brass chorale arrangements. David Colon from Brokelyn sums up their set perfectly, “If you have ‘mosh while someone plays a tuba’ on your bucket list, this is the place to be.” The dance party continues with Gloria Isaiah hitting the stage at 11PM, mixing her own blend of hot Latin, R&B, and rock fusion, intended for both the body and soul, into the evening’s musical gumbo. With three taps dedicated to our Get Phat Tuesday Abita Beer specials, there will be plenty of authentic beverages to cool you down as this evening heats up.
