The Katie Halper Show (& Tell) Live: Where the Political Gets Personal, with special guest Jay Smooth

Jan 6, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

| Free

Political comedian and writer Katie Halper (Laughing Liberally, Rolling Stone, Salon, The Nation, Commie Camp) and co-host comedian Gabe Pacheco (Funhouse Comedy) bring their weekly WBAI radio show to a live audience at the Brooklyn Commons, a cafe, bar, and performance space, where they will talk about the personal and political with a guest over his or her favorite cocktail. This week’s guest is Jay Smooth, the founder and host of New York City’s longest running hip-hop radio program, “The Underground Railroad” (WBAI), which he started as a teenager in 1991. Called a “genius” by Rachel Maddow and “the hardest blogging man in hiphop” by Wired Magazine, Jay Smooth reflects on politics, pop culture, race and music though his “The Ill Doctrine,” (illdoctrine.com) videos, which attract millions of viewers. Jay has appeared on MSNBC, NPR, and TEDx.
