The Donor Project Opening Reception
Mar 25, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm| Free
Shoestring Press is pleased to present The Donor Project, the first comprehensive exhibition of Jenny Carolin’s printed images, paintings and video based on her experience donating eggs to a private fertility clinic on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
At a time of intense international political debate around surrogacy, The Donor Project refocuses attention on the deeply personal experiences of lives and livelihoods bound up in medical fertility.
The Donor Project will be on view from March 25 to April 15 at Shoestring Press (663 Classon Ave., Brooklyn), with an opening reception March 25 at 8pm and an Artist Panel Discussion April 13 at 7pm.
About the Artist
Jenny Carolin received her MFA in Painting from Syracuse University, and her BFA from the Columbus College of Art and Design. Honors include a residency grant at the Stonehouse Foundation, the Jerome Solomon Foundation Grant, and the Posey Foundation Grant. Carolin’s strong technical training in the traditions of painting and drawing are paired a performance art practice and self-deprecating humor which focuses on characters acting out questions of identity and gender roles. Carolin is a co-founder of the Mudhouse Residency in Agios Ioannis, Crete, and the Director of Educational Programming at Shoestring Press.
