Spicy Witch Productions is proud to present the world premiere of The C*nt, a new play by Elle Anhorn and William Wycherley’s The Country Wife running in repertory on alternating days with an ensemble cast Sept 16-27, 2015 at The Clemente’s Flamboyan Theater

In the pairing of these two bawdy comedies, Spicy Witch explores sexual freedom, gender fluidity, and rules and boundaries of monogamy. In Phoebe Brooks’ updated version of The Country Wife, “The newlywed Margery planned to mate for life but is feeling restricted by being a wife. Across town, Horner, who’s a bit of a cad, is finally done with identifying as a lad. In a world of strict binaries, Horner’s non-conformity may help to dispel the ‘virgin/whore’ dichotomy.” Bolstered by the blindness of expectations and the fluidity of attraction, our re-imagined version of this classic English comedy proves it can be prudent to be prurient and worthwhile to be wickedly witty.”

The C*nt, our world premiere adaptation of The Country Wife, is the culmination of our yearlong writer-in-residence program, created to support an emerging female playwright. Inspired by The Country Wife, The C’nt examines how the rules of relationships have changed in a world where women have more sexual freedom than Restoration England.

The Country Wife, by William Wycherley is directed by Phoebe Brooks. The C*nt, by Elle Anhorn, is directed by Francesca Di Cesare. The ensemble repertory cast features Zach Bryant, Amanda Sophia Ebert, Katie Fanning, Kristin Guerin, Tim Haber, Hannah Hammel, Zach Libresco, Isaac Allen Miller, Kat Murphy, and Samantha Nugent.

Spicy Witch Productions explores gender and identity through the pairing of classical and contemporary plays in repertory. Dedicated to creating roles for women on and offstage, Spicy Witch aims to help close the gender gap in theater and to use the conversation between classical and contemporary text to initiate a dialogue and be a catalyst for social change. Spicy Witch Productions was founded in 2013 and is fiscally sponsored by Fractured Atlas.

The Country Wife runs September 17, 19, 23, 25 at 8pm and September 26th and 27th at 2pm.
