Fundraiser, party, storytelling!!

OUT IN ALABAMA is a documentary in-progress highlighting the communities in Alabama which support LGBT rights. Produced by Brooklyn filmmaker & Alabama-native Bonnie Blue Edwards (with Oscar-Winning Documentary Filmmaker Cynthia Wade consulting), the film will take an intimate approach to reigniting the universal responsibility of compassion.

OUT IN ALABAMA has just launched its Kickstarter campaign, and The Sunday Film Series presents a unique opportunity to donate in person, see a sneak preview of some of the film subjects, AND hear some amazing tales from our featured storytellers from The Moth. There will be a $5 cover for the entertainment, and an opportunity to contribute separately to the film at the event.

Our featured storytellers include:
~Tara Clancy- Tara Clancy is a writer, performer and fifth-generation native New Yorker. Her writing has appeared in the NY Times Magazine, the Paris Review Daily and The Rumpus. Her solo show was featured in the NY Fringe Festival. She also tells stories at The Moth, and is a winner of their GrandSLAM storytelling competition. Originally from Queens, Tara now lives in Manhattan with her wife and two sons. She is currently working on a memoir.

~David Crabb is a performer, writer & storyteller. He is a Moth Story Slam host and two-time Moth Slam winner. His solo show “Bad Kid” was a 2012 New York Times Critics’ Pick. A memoir based on the show will be released next year by Harper Perennial. David is a lead instructor with The Moth’s High School Slam program and has taught & directed storytellers at NYC’s Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre (UCB), the People’s Improv Theatre (The PIT), & The Writers Guild Initiative’s Wounded Warrior Project.

~Diana Spechler- Diana Spechler is the author of the novels Who by Fire and Skinny. Her writing has appeared in the New York Times, GQ, Paris Review, Esquire, the Wall Street Journal, and elsewhere. She is a seven-time Moth StorySLAM winner whose work has been featured on The Moth podcast and The Moth Radio Hour. She teaches writing in New York City and for Stanford University’s Online Writer’s Studio. Learn more at www.dianaspechler.com.
