Come over to our place on May 16th to see and taste Sumo! We’ll be projecting that day’s matches on the big screen, drinking beer and eating bento. It’s the closest you can get to live Sumo without the flight to Tokyo.
This ancient sport is only practiced professionally in Japan and isn’t even in the Olympics. The May tournament is one of the biggest of the year. When you attend a match in Japan you eat bento, and each ticket will reserve you a bento box, bringing a little East into our West. Orion beer will be plentiful and Joto Sake will provide us with some of their best brew.
We’ll also dish up some Chankonabe the traditional stew of Sumo wrestlers. Chankonabe served during sumo tournaments is made exclusively with chicken, the idea being that a rikishi(wrestler) should always be on two legs like a chicken, not all fours.
We’ll finish up the event with a toast to Sumo with some of the finest Japanese whiskey, Nikka.
