Summer Exhibitions – American art and architecture showcases
Aug 15, 2014 @ 11:00 am - 6:00 pm
The Annual, one of the country’s longest running American art and architecture showcases, is on view now at the National Academy Museum on museum mile in New York City through September 14th. This contemporary art survey fills the entire museum with new works of painting, sculpture, video, photography, prints, and drawings by legendary members of the Academy including Carrie Mae Weems, Frank Stella, Richard Serra, Richard Estes, and Mark Di Suvero.
Highlights of this summer extravaganza include a rare large-scale architectural structural of dynamic and clashing colors by Richard Tuttle and an exuberantly colored ceramic work by Betty Woodman, as well as a cool cerebral abstract sculpture by Beverly Pepper in white marble. The video of note is by Carrie Mae Weems in the intimate fourth floor oval galleries.
Also on view are architectural models and drawings by I.M. Pei, Michael Graves, and David Adjaye. In the Sonia Gechtoff galleries, museum-goers will enjoy works by emerging artists such as Tess O’Dwyer whose oversized, gnarled safety pins curl into the fetal position in haunting despair. The National Academy is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday 11Am to 6PM. Thursdays are PAY AS YOU WISH. To arrange a tour please contact: email@example.com
