On October 21st, Danish architect Bjarke Ingels and New York landscape architect Laura Starr will discuss their HUD Rebuild By Design award-winning plan to build a protective system around Manhattan, delivering flood protection, green space, and community resources to waterfront communities. Venetia Lannon, regional director of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Region II, will moderate this event, which is applicable to all New Yorkers interested in sustainable design, green infrastructure, and the future of our waterfront in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.
The event benefits the Lower East Side Ecology Center, a local nonprofit that operates residential compost drop-off sites in Lower Manhattan and runs a city-wide electronic waste recycling program.
