Starhawk Reading of City of Refuge
Feb 21, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm| Free
Stories shape our imagination and our ideas of the possible. How can we use the power of story to help us envision a positive future, and inspire people to want to work towards it?
Join Starhawk at The Alchemist’s Kitchen for a reading from her newest book City of Refuge, sequel to the classic novel The Fifth Sacred Thing, where the power of storytelling will be explored through her book-reading and ensuing discussion with the audience.
Starhawk’s The Fifth Sacred Thing is a post-apocalyptic visionary tale about a multicultural community of witches resisting the forces of evil. When it came out in 1993, it became a best-seller. Twenty years later, her new novel City of Refuge answers the timely question: how do we build a new world when people are broken by the old? When she offered it to her corporate publisher, they turned it down saying it “didn’t reflect contemporary sensibilities.” So she turned to her community and it became the second-highest funded fiction project ever on Kickstarter. Now readers are loving it!
During this special evening, Starhawk will read excerpts from City of Refuge, followed by a discussion about the book and her self-publishing adventures. Books will be available for sale to be signed by the author.
