Spermicide and Fresh
Mar 15, 2014 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm| $10
On March 14th and 15th at 8PM the Brooklyn LaunchPad will host a twin bill of new solo performances: Spermicide by David Lawson and Fresh by Melissa Gordon.
Spermicide is about despicable, depraved and strange men in America circa right now. Featuring characters such as a Starbucks employee who feels his “religious freedom” has been violated because he is fired for sharing his Jennifer Lawrence/Pokemon mashup sex fantasy in the break room, a Brony, someone doing “showtime!” on the subway (except it’s musical theatre), a street catcaller character that voices his “interior” monologue, and many more. Yvonne Hartung directs.
Fresh is about several very different freshmen students at a liberal arts college who are forced to talk about who they are in an attempt to make new friends in their dorm under the group supervision of their overenthusiastic, hyper-neurotic RA . However, talking about yourself can be difficult when you’re still trying to figure it out.
Lawson’s solo performances have previously been performed at The Brick Theater, Dixon Place and UNDER St Marks and his VCR Love was recently published by Original Works Publishing. Gordon is a company member of The Story Pirates and frequently performs sketch and improv at the People’s Improv Theater and the Magnet Theatre.
