ShoutHouse kicks off its 2016-17 season with CrossCurrent, at the DiMenna Center. The band’s first collaboration with dancers, the show will include the talents of hip-hop dancer/choreographer Quilan Arnold, modern dancers Simon Rydèn and Taylor Labruzzo from The Juilliard School, and an ensemble of 15 orchestral musicians. Poetic and experimental hip-hop MC’s Nuri Hazzard and Spiritchild will spit verses over music by ShoutHouse composers Will Healy and Jesse Greenberg, including the premiere of Healy’s Mannahatta, a reflection on the roots of New York. Versatile singer Hannah Zazzaro will lead the group in a wide range of vocal styles.
ShoutHouse is a orchestral hip-hop collective composed of 15 artists, including two MC’s, a jazz singer, and a chamber orchestra. ShoutHouse performs art that celebrates our communities’ differences. Through spoken word, notated and improvised music, they are a platform for New York’s arts community to express themselves on one stage, regardless of background. They have been featured on WNYC’s New Sounds, the ICIYL Mixtape, WBAI’s Making Music, and they were recently named one of NYC’s “Top 10 Best Up-and-Coming Bands” by The Culture Trip.
