Screening of Los Sures
Nov 1, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm| FREE
In 1984, a young filmmaker named Diego Echeverria documented the lives of four people living in one of the poorest New York City neighborhoods at that time: Williamsburg, Brooklyn’s South Side, also known as “Los Sures.” Home to mostly Puerto Rican and Dominican families, the film captured a range of moving and complex moments in time, revealing a poignant portrait of an often-overlooked community. Join us for a screening of the film, which was rediscovered in the late 2000s and restored by UnionDocs, followed by a panel discussion with individuals featured in the original film, community advocates, and elected officials, many of whom still call this community home.
Presented in partnership with UnionDocs.
