Revolisyon/Revolution culminating event will feature a staged reading by Haitian Diaspora Artists from the book Create Dangerously: The Immigrant Artist at Work by Edwidge Danticat, spoken word, a tribute to Manno Charlemagne by Obed Jean-Louis & special guests, a discussion panel, and a film screening of the Agronomist by Jonathan Demme. The documentary follows the life of Jean Dominique, who ran Haiti’s first independent radio station, Radio Haiti-Inter, during multiple repressive regimes.
Marking the 30 year anniversary of the fall of the Duvalier regime, these events will focus on the power and importance of memory. The dictatorship which spanned nearly 30 years was marked by terror, violence, and repression and led to the systematic exile and departure of many people – a lot of whom settled in New York. Presented in partnership with Frantz Voltaire & CIDIHCA.
