Postcards for Politicians Art Workshop with Carolyn Monastra
October 1 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm| Free
Artist Carolyn Monastra will discuss the impacts of climate change on our individual and environmental health (which she has documented through her ongoing Witness Tree project), and lead participants in brainstorming solutions, including political action. Using recycled materials, attendees will be encouraged to create hand-made postcards voicing their concerns about climate change and health. These postcards will first be displayed on a “Live Witness Tree” outside the Old Stone House and later be sent to local and national politicians. Participants will hang their postcards on this tree in exchange for a small photo from The Witness Tree project to take home: each of the project prints includes tips for how to reduce one’s personal carbon footprint and suggested community-based climate actions.
We will display postcards by middle school students from MS 51. Members of local healthcare activism groups will be present to discuss specific campaigns and actions.
**Meet at the Washington Park fence, 5th avenue between 3rd and 4th streets.**
All ages welcome
This event is presented in conjunction with our current exhibition “Being Well: In Search of Utopia?” on view through October 8, exploring artists’ visions for health and wellness. Note the show will be closed to the public on October 1 but will be open from 11am-4pm on 9/24, and from 10-5pm on 10/7!
