Ecocide (n. extensive damage, destruction to or loss of ecosystems)

It has often been said that “when human law aligns with higher law, harmony shall prevail”.

Our beliefs govern our inner world, which in turn mirror our outer world – and vice versa. Starting with a ‘first do no harm principle’, UK lawyer Polly Higgins is in New York to advocate for Ecocide law at the United Nations. Taking it a step further, she proposes that by facing our own inner ecocides, there are profound implications for a global law that puts people and planet first. Quite literally, as we open up to a world without harm from within, so it can begin to take place around us.

Polly Higgins’ work as a Voice for the Earth has taken her on a journey where she has had to meet her own ecocides. She continues to speak about the law of Ecocide, yet her great passion is exploring the nexus between being and doing – what she calls Askesis.

Polly will speak about her journey, her Askesis practise, the alchemical inter-weaving between inner and outer law and why New York has the power to put in place a law aligned with higher law.
