Old Love, New Love: Songs of Romance for the Ages
Feb 8, 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm| $25
St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church will present Old Love, New Love, Songs of Romance for the Ages, featuring vocalist Michael Winthe, accompanied by Joseph Falken on piano. The hour-long concert will include performances of classic standards and new love songs by some of our best emerging contemporary theater composers and lyricists. The event takes place in anticipation of Valentine’s Day in the sanctuary of historic St. Ann’s on Clinton and Montague Streets in Brooklyn Heights.
Winther, who has racked up countless musical theater credits, is a veteran of the Broadway and Off-Broadway stage. He has headlined numerous concerts in New York City – frequently playing the popular “54 Below” and the Metropolitan Room – and across the country. He has been called a “first-rate singer of unusual refinement” with “a voice that traverses genres” by Stephen Holden of the New York Times. Writing about a previous performance of this program for Old Love, New Love, the Village Voice said Winther is “an exciting voice doing exciting new voices. Like Audra McDonald, he loves plucking selections from the new writer’s bumper crop.”
Jospeh Thalken is an award-winning composer of numerous theater works. Thalken has also written choral, art songs, concert and chamber music. His orchestrations can be heard on albums by Rebecca Luker, Howard McGillen, BJ Ward, and opera star Nathan Gunn, among others. As a pianist and music director, he has toured extensively with Broadway greats Patti LuPone, Bernadette Peters, Kristin Chenoweth, Brian Stokes Mitchell, and many more.
Old Love, New Love is open to the public. A suggested donation of $25.00 is requested to benefit The Forum @ St. Ann’s, which seeks to engage the community in conversation about the arts, ideas and civic life.
