Of Nothing and Everything
Sep 10, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
World Money Gallery is proud to present the debut solo exhibition of visual artist Kat Hooper. This is the first comprehensive arrangement of the San Francisco born artist on display. Featuring numerous oil paintings and installation pieces it examines the mind of a synesthetic and attempts to show the general public what it’s like to perceive the world through the eyes of someone with synesthesia.
Born in 1992 and raised in the Bay Area and graduating from Otis College of Art and Design with a BFA emphasizing in painting, Hooper has been painting for nearly her entire life. Her influences include Frida Kahlo, Tara Donovan, Caravaggio, and most prominently Anselm Kiefer.
The exhibition features four large oil paintings on canvas, two smaller paintings on wood done with oil, wax, and cigarette ashes. All are influenced by what sound “looks” like to the artist. As well as stop-motion video, which lets viewers see what the world looks like to a synesthetic.
