NYU Symphony at Symphony Space
February 17 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm| Free
The NYU Symphony will perform an all-Soviet concert conducted by Constantine Kitsopoulos for its sixth annual concert at the Symphony Space on Friday, February 17. The program will include Alexander Glazunov Carnaval Overture, Dmitri Shostakovich Symphony No. 5, and Aram Khachaturian Flute Concerto, featuring Charles Page, winner of the 2016 NYU Steinhardt Woodwind Concerto Competition. Professor Jonathan Hall will give a pre-concert talk.
Accomplished in multiple musical genres, Kitsopoulos regularly leads orchestras throughout New York City, in venues such as Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall, as well as on Broadway. The 2016/2017 season will mark his seventh as Music Director of the Festival of the Arts BOCA, and he recently completed an eight-year tenure as Music Director of the Queens Symphony.
Page received his Master’s degree in flute performance from NYU last year. While at NYU he performed in the NYU Symphony and New Music Ensemble and taught flute as an adjunct faculty member. In addition to the NYU Steinhardt Woodwind Concerto Competition, he has been a winner of the orchestral flute, orchestral piccolo, and solo masterclass series at the Louisiana Flute Society; National Flute Association Collegiate Flute Choir; and University of Alabama concerto competition. He currently performs with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra.
Hall is an organist and writer, who currently teaches music theory and music criticism at NYU Steinhardt. His articles and reviews often appear in journals such as TAO and The Diapason. He is also very active in the American Guild of Organists, serving as Director of the Committee on Professional Certification.
The concert is free and open to the public. The pre-concert talk will begin at 7:30 p.m., and the concert will begin at 8 p.m. Registration is not required.
