New York Writers Workshop Presents: Writing About Your Life with Donna Minkowitz

May 26, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 7:45 pm

| Free

Memoir writers worry about whether their experiences are universal enough to interest others. Though people’s lives differ greatly, human feelings and needs are universal. We’ll explore ways to use emotion, our five senses, and creative insight to craft memoir pieces any reader can identify with.

Donna Minkowitz has taught memoir writing since 1998, at venues including the 92nd Street Y, The Kitchen, and In Our Own Write.

Her recent memoir, Growing Up Golem: How I Survived My Mother, Brooklyn and Some Really Bad Dates, was a finalist for both a Lambda Literary Award and for the Judy Grahn Nonfiction Award. She won a Lammy for her first memoir, Ferocious Romance. Minkowitz has also written for The New York Times Book Review, Salon, The Collagist, The Nation and New York magazine. She is a member of New York Writers Workshop.
