Music for Wing Walkers is a monthly concert series produced by John Blevins and Drew Williams showcasing innovative music from both established and emerging artists. The Wing Walker music podcast, mixtape, and concert series highlight similar threads in different types of music, connecting musicians and listeners through a deeper understanding of creativity and originality.

A Room Of One’s Own is vibraphonist/ composer Yuhan Su’s second album release under Inner Circle Music (USA) and AsiaMuse (Taiwan). The record is an intensely impressionistic work that captivates with its creative energy marked by ardent romanticism and pensive originality. This project features her jazz quintet with Matt Holman on Trumpet/Flugelhorn, Kenji Herbert on Guitar, Petros Klampanis on Bass, Nathan Ellman-Bell on Drums and Yuhan Su on Vibraphone/Compositions.

A native of Taiwan, New York based-vibraphonist Su has been living in the US since moving to Boston in 2008 to study at Berklee. Since then, she has had performances along the East Coast and joined acclaimed saxophonist Greg Osby’s label, Inner Circle Music. Yuhan also has received the endorsement from Alternate Mode as a featured MalletKat Artist and Resta-Jay Percussions in France.

Su’s debut release as leader, Flying Alone (Inner Circle Music, 2013), has been released to widespread approval. In the DownBeat, Brad Farberman wrote of Su’s “intelligence, sensitivity and a haunting sense of tenderness.” Flying Alone has received numerous music awards and nominations, including ‘Best Jazz Album of the Year’, ‘Best New Artist’, ’ Best Jazz Single’ from the 2013 Golden Indie Music Award and ‘Best Performance Album of the year’, ’Best Composer Award’ from 2013 Golden Melody Award in Taiwan, and “Best Release of 2013” by All about Jazz. In 2015, Yuhan releases her second album A Room of One’s Own featuring her jazz quintet with Matt Holman on Trumpet/Flugelhorn, Kenji Herbert on Guitar, Petros Klampanis on Bass and Nathan Ellman-Bell on drums.

Empyrean Atlas, the band of composer/multi-instrumentalist David Crowell, has been described by TimeOut NY as combining “Minimalist drive and Afropop shimmer – a bright infectious mix,” and by Lucid Culture as “alternately hypnotic and kinetic.” In July 2015, Wilco named Inner Circle as one of their 17 favorite records of the year.

The Wing Walker Orchestra is a collaborative large ensemble based in New York City featuring original compositions and arrangements by the musicians in the band. The confluence of ideas from multiple composer/improvisers gives the orchestra’s sound groundbreaking musical diversity.

Wing Walker Music was founded to discuss creativity and originality in music. Through our podcast, wildcard series, mixtape, and live shows, we have showcased some of the most interesting music being made by both established and emerging musicians. By highlighting similar threads in different types of music, we want to expose common ground between musicians and listeners to better reflect the way people actually listen to music. Thank you for listening.
