Media Movers & Shakers in New York City, Then & Now
Oct 3, 2015 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm| $20
Join Untapped Cities founder Michelle Young, journalist and urban planner Julia Vitullo-Martin, and Brokelyn News Editor David Colon for a lively discussion exploring the frenzied world of NYC news and media, both past and present.
The 19th century was an explosive time for news and media in America. And many of the men who worked alongside each other in New York are now are resting among their peers in Green-Wood, including Horace Greeley, founder of the New York Tribune; James Harper, founder of Harper & Brothers; and Henry Raymond, founder of The New York Times.
Young, Vitullo-Martin and Colon will trace the early boom days of New York City newspapers to the current upheaval in media, detailing the shifts media has made along the way before giving their opinion of where it will go next.
Following the talk, a trolley tour will visit the monuments of the great newspaper men of the 19th century. Talk is free; Trolley tour is $20; $15 for members of the Green-Wood Historic Fund and members of the Brooklyn Historical Society.
