Master Class with Elia Mrak

Join Elia Mrak in these two days of creative exploration that will focus on investigating the body in relation to the floor, other bodies, and the space. Elia will lead an energetic mind-fueling practice inspired by techniques such as qigong, break-dancing, and flying low. Advanced or professional dancers are invited to learn and share in this playful creative environment.

ABOUT ELIA MRAK
Elia Mrak is a storyteller. He performs, directs, and teaches. His practice fuses Qigong, Bboying, Flying Low, and dramaturgy of the theater. He has performed, taught, and directed throughout the last decade of traveling and living in Europe, Central and South America, and the U.S. He includes in his list of masters: David Zambrano, Park Young-Cool, and FeverOne. He currently trains, teaches, and creates in Seattle, in partnership with Velocity Dance Center and The Beacon, and in New York with Floor Friends and Chez Bushwick. He has been awarded the SCUBA grant and the Iberescena Fellowship in partnership with Viko Kaizen and Martin Piliponsky. In 2015, he begun an artistic collaboration with Nancy Lopez Luna. Together they teach, create and perform. They premiered a duet titled, “Whimsical” and they have presented it in Mexico City and Xalapa. They will continue their work together in Italy as recipients of the ACASA Residency Compangia/Roberto Zappalà in Sicily, November-December 2015.
ABOUT THE MARK MORRIS DANCE CENTER
The Mark Morris Dance Center in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, was built in 2001 and is a major cultural resource for the community. In addition to being the home of the Mark Morris Dance Group, the Dance Center offers a wide range of education and community programs to over 2,000 weekly visitors. It houses The School at the Mark Morris Dance Center, 7 fully-equipped studios that are available for rent, and many amenities including a large 140-seat studio theater, lounges, dressing rooms, and outdoor terraces.
