A curated selection of silent films with live musical accompaniment by Bakia Quartet. Past programs have included films by silent luminaries such as Charlie Chaplin, Salvador Dalí, Marcel Duchamp, and George Méliès.
Rooted in the surrealism of Salvador Dalí and leaning towards avant-garde, Bakia Quartet creates a performance that blends musical genre and works with other mediums such as film to allow both the music and the film to be viewed anew and re-imagined.
Quartet Dali is a contemporary improvisation group that specializes in multi-disciplinary performances. Formed in 2013, Bakia Quartet began by presenting improvised live scores to a series of classic and contemporary silent films and has since began to branch out to collaborate with other creative mediums including dance and theater. The freedom of improvisation allows the group to flow freely between different musical influences including classical, jazz, indie rock, avant-garde and everything in between.
Bakia Quartet – Asher Kurtz (Guitar) Kenji Herbert (Guitar) Zack Nestel-Patt (Bass) Charlie Van Kirk (Percussion) – has been presenting concerts that strive to contextualize contemporary improvisation in a setting of artistic multi-disciplinary collaboration.
