Joshua Stephens discusses THE DOG WALKER: AN ANARCHIST’S ENCOUNTERS WITH THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE CANINE
Oct 9, 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm| Free
Part fish-out-of-water story, part urban study, and part radical guide to life and career, The Dog Walker is the hugely entertaining memoir of a dog walker for the rich and powerful. When Joshua Stephens launched a successful dog walking collective in Washington, DC, he found himself picking up after the capital city’s elite pups. It sounds like the set-up to a joke, but the committed anarchist, who spent his days protesting the financial and political establishment, spent ten years as a trusted dog walker to the very same people he was passionately fighting against. The anarchist was literally cleaning up after the man (or, rather, the man’s best friends).
In his new book, Stephens shares the odd and charming tricks of the trade, and can tell you all about what your dog walker thinks about the mess in your apartment. But his years in dog walking also gave him a unique setting from which to view his city, and the people that live there, revealing deep, and sometimes uncomfortable, truths about issues like gentrification, street harassment, class, and equality.
