Joseph la Piana: Tension
Sep 24, 2015
Denis Gardarin Gallery presents “Tension,” an installation by abstract artist Joseph La Piana featuring 2650 feet of yellow latex stretched back-and-forth across the structural pillars of a warehouse at 202 Coffey Street. As with many of La Piana’s smaller-scale works, Tension pushes the capabilities of a static material by testing its expandability. In addition to activating the material, the installation brings the recently unused shipbuilding warehouse to life. While remaining entirely unique to La Piana, the tension created in the warehouse recalls the experience of Lygia Pape’s Tteia I, C (Web) installation.
Wine reception: Thursday, September 24th, 6-8PM at 202 Coffey Street.
(Take Van Brunt Street to Dikeman Street and make a right and follow to end of Dikeman Street. Warehouse entrance on the left.)
