JACQUELINE GOSS & JENNY PERLIN: “THE MEASURES”
Dec 3, 2015 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm| Free
This event is free; registration is required at http://bit.ly/1OdRTZe
Jacqueline Goss and Jenny Perlin present their film and performance “The Measures” in which the artists retrace the journey of two 18th-century astronomers tasked with determining the true length of the meter. The event is co-sponsored by The New School and presented in conjunction with the Center for Book Arts exhibition “Archive Bound”, which is on view at the Center through December 12.
From the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel, “The Measures” explores the metric system’s origins during the violence and upheavals of the French Revolution. Along the way, Goss and Perlin consider the intertwining of political and personal turmoil, the failures of standardization, and the subtleties of collaboration. The film will be screened with a live voiceover by Goss and Perlin. Also as a part of the evening, New School curator Silvia Rocciolo will present a talk on the Jose Clemente Orozco murals from The New School’s art collection. More info: http://bit.ly/1PMAaty
