Two Intimate Explorations of Loss, Courage and Triumph!

Join Premieres for the 2014 edition of INNER VOICES, A Music Theater Double Bill featuring two new music theater jewels by Charlayne Woodard & Kirsten Childs (GRACE) and Mark Campbell & Marisa Michelson (THE OTHER ROOM). With each piece being uniquely different from the other, these dramatic musical monologues blend into a rare and intimate evening of storytelling.

GRACE (by Woodard & Childs and starring Andrea Frierson)
Brilliant, arrogant, award-winning novelist Grace Monroe faces the most devastating challenge of her life, forcing her to reassess her past, present and future. GRACE is a haunting, soulful tale.

THE OTHER ROOM (by Campbell & Michelson and starring Phoebe Strole)
Lena reflects on her profound love for her friend Steve when he becomes seriously ill. THE OTHER ROOM is a moving, often humorous celebration of the power of friendship and political engagement during the early years of the AIDS crisis in New York.

See what the Critics had to say:
The New York Times says of the double bill that makes up Inner Voices: “A fervent performance by star Andrea Frierson [with] vivacious music by Kirsten Childs in Charlayne Woodard’s GRACE. [In The Other Room] Phoebe Strole has a clear silvery voice and innate warmth. Ms. Michelson’s music produces real chills. Mr. Campbell’s lyrics swirl with anger and love.”
“The voices may be ‘Inner’ but they contain bursts of outer passion……..The music by Childs comes in the style of a strong force in synch with the passion of the libretto and the dynamic quality of Frierson’s persona as Grace………Strole has a winsome personality in capturing the theme of the piece, directed by Ethan Heard…….Both ‘Grace’ and ‘The Other Room’ are alive with depth of feeling and creativity.”- William Wolf- New York Calling Theater
“This is a fascinating evening. Frierson and Strole possess extraordinary voices and know exactly what to do with them. Each knows that the voice is connected directly to the heart. They soar and plummet; they are bold and frightened; they are tender and courageous. Life is something they are in up to their vocal cords. We are allowed to walk with them through the fear and the fire and therefore are able to feel the strength each summons to overcome.”- Tulis McCall – Front Row Center
“One of the most exciting evenings in musical theater is happening at TBG Theatre by Premieres. Grace is haunting and at the same time hopeful. The music is very reminiscent of Adam Guettel, Michael John LaChiusa with hints of Joni Mitchel. It is refreshing, semi-operatic, completely sung through and exciting. By the end of this piece I was so moved, I led the crowd in bravos and applause……if you truly love musical theatre, great singing, innovative pieces that are not afraid to unveil places deep within, this show is for you. By the end I felt energized and restored that music and theatre could be this good.”- Suzanne Bowling – Times Square Chronicle
“Rarely does musical theatre offer such profound and resonant insights into the human condition. There’s little gloss here and even less toe-tapping, but the skillful, natural, and delicate presentation of these two new musicals prove that substance is far more rewarding than show. There is nothing somber or morose in this cycle of Inner Voices, but there is something refreshing in the accessible sadness that both Grace and The Other Room have to offer. Musical theatre has a tendency to allow its audience to take it in from a cool distance. This is not the case here and I, for one, welcome the invitation to feel.”- Seth Bogner – Theatre is Easy
