Sunday MAY 7th, 2017 – PERFORMANCES AT THE BRICK THEATER, Williamsburg

“SWEET HOME ALBANIA” – 2pm

performed in Italian with English subtitles

by Aleksandros Memetaj, directed by Giampiero Rappa, with Aleksandros Memetaj — Argot Production (Lazio)

Aleksandros was six months old when his parents — among many others — decided to leave Albania for Italy. This is the story of a child who will grow up away from his country, and of a father who will make great sacrifices for his family. Winner of the awards: Festival di Resistenza Museo Cervi, Gattatico — Bando Festival Avanguardie 2030, Bologna.

“MY IDEA” – 4pm

performed in Italian with English subtitles

written and directed by Ernesto Orrico, with Ernesto Orrico, Massimo Garritano at the bouzuchi and at the dobro — Zahir production (Calabria)

A first-person account of the true story of Giuseppe “Joe” Zangara, an Italian immigrant who tried to assassinate US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. At 33 years old, on March 20th, 1933, Zangara is executed by electric chair.

Monday MAY 8th, 2017 – READINGS AT SOUTH OXFORD SPACES, Fort Greene

“THE WOMAN WHO READS” – 6pm

reading in English

by Renato Gabrielli, directed by Laura Caparrotti – With Alice Lussiana Parente, Mark Lanham and Laura Caparrotti.

A middle-aged retired lawyer and amateur poet becomes infatuated with a young reader he glimpses at the beach. He contacts her through a former colleague and lover, with a proposal to solve her financial problems in return for granting him permission to observe her while she reads, in peculiar circumstances which – as the story unravels – become increasingly intimate and morbid. This abnormal “love triangle” becomes deeper and more obsessive, until its disturbing ending.

“THE HEALER” – 8pm

reading in English

by Michele Santeramo – in collaboration with UMANISM and its Italian Playwrights Project. Directed by Dominic D’Andrea.

The healer is a man who connects stories to people, to cure them. He is tired and old and drinks grappa. Healing is not an easy matter, it takes carelessness, liberation and separation. He is neither a magician nor a doctor, but merely an obscure compromise.
