I’m New Here–Can You Show Me Around?
Sometimes the only thing to do is to move to New York City. So you do it. You take a deep breath, you move here, you take a look around and you breathe out. That exhale might sound like a terrified scream, or a delighted giggle. Who knows? Jon Ronson does! Maeve Higgins does! Two funny people – Jon Ronson (Best selling author, This American Life favorite) and Maeve Higgins (comedian, legend) bring you new writing, great stand up and super fresh interviews with other strangers from strange lands who have made New York their home.
Maeve Higgins is a stand-up comedian from Ireland who basically performs wherever she can. So far this has included a bus and many major cities. As well as wowing and/or bewildering crowds at festivals like the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, the New Zealand Comedy Festival and the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival in Brooklyn, she is a TV star at home and makes some great radio. Her first book, a collection of essays entitled We have a good time, don’t we? will be published by Hachette in October 2012. Maeve has part ownership of a very gentle Doberman Pinscher. Check her and her dog out at www.maevehiggins.com.
Jon’s books – The Psychopath Test, The Men Who Stare At Goats, Lost at Sea, and Them – are all international and New York Times bestsellers. His first fiction screenplay, Frank, co-written with Peter Straughan, has been filmed starring Michael Fassbender and Maggie Gyllenhaal and will be released in US cinemas in the summer. He is a regular contributor to the PRI show This American Life and is currently writing a book about public shaming.
