I’d Rather Be Weird Than Good presents Max’s Kansas City
Jul 23, 2015 @ 8:00 pm - Jul 24, 2015 @ 12:00 am| Free
Ever want to hang out with Andy Warhol, Debbie Harry, and the Velvet Underground?
On July 23rd for one night only famous New York hotspot Max’s Kansas City will be available to visit in the back of Legion Bar in Williamsburg. Come rub shoulders with junkies, punks, poets, gutter punks, glitter punks, gutter poets, artists, drag queens & all sorts of the hippest vilest lowlifes you’ll ever meet. Actors and comedians from UCB, MTV, The Annoyance Theater, The PIT, and The Special With Brett Davis will recreate the back room of Max’s in an interactive theater experience and bring you on a time travel adventure unlike anything you’ve ever seen, and it’s all free.
Max’s Kansas City was a notorious downtown haunt where Andy Warhol and his cohorts would regularly hold court. It is considered one the birthplaces of punk, glam, and pop art, and The Velvet Underground recorded a live album there. It eventually turned into the sister club to CBGBs in the burgeoning Punk/New Wave scene.
So come talk to Andy Warhol. Flirt with Candy Darling. Hit on our waitress, Debbie Harry. Listen to a live performance by the Velvet Underground if Lou Reed isn’t too strung out to play. There might even be some young Ramones running around.
It’s all free. Just make sure to tip Debbie.
