The Hero Gene
Oct 8, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
Be the Match® and advertising agency AREA 23 will host a bone marrow donation registration event called “The Hero Gene” at New York Comic Con.
WHAT: To increase the size of the National Bone Marrow Database, Be the Match and AREA 23 are hosting a donor registration drive at the East Coast’s largest pop culture and most heroic event, New York Comic Con—the annual fan convention dedicated to comics, graphic novels, anime, manga, video games, toys, movies and television, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from October 8–11.
Attendees will participate in cheek swabs to find out if they have “The Hero Gene,” and demonstrate a commitment to help save lives threatened by blood cancer.
WHEN: October 8–11, 2015
10 a.m.–6 p.m.
WHERE: New York Comic Convention
Jacob K. Javits Convention Center
655 W. 34th St, New York, NY 10001
WHY: For people diagnosed with blood cancer, a bone marrow transplant is often their only hope for survival. Unfortunately, 70% don’t have a donor match in their family and depend on brave champions in the donor database to come to their rescue. With only 1 in 500 registrants who will ever actually go on to donate, expanding the registry will give more patients hope for salvation.
