Group Show: Made in Brooklyn

Mar 20, 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Opens March 20th 7-10pm Continues through March 23rd 4-8pm

Twelve multi-disciplinary artists from across the continent have gathered in Brooklyn, NY, a
hotbed of creative outpouring in a community reeling from the effects of gentrification and the
exclusivity of the Manhattan arts scene. “Made in Brooklyn” is a four night pop-up gallery
located at 20 Jay St. (Suite M10) in the heart of the DUMBO neighborhood. With the intention of
discussing and dissecting what it means to be an artist in the present moment, these artists
present works made in the past two months. Work ranges from painting, sculpture, and
photography to new media, all speculating on arts shifting role in a rapidly evolving social
climate. Underlying themes of sexuality, developing identity, a shift in communication and the
mysticism of art present themselves in this exhibition. These artists posit that we are on the
edge of a precipice, and everything is about to change. They ask of the audience “What will art
become? What will we become?”
All of these artists are participants in the New York Studio Residency Program, an arts incubator
program sponsored by the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design, that provides
critical theory education as well as individual studio spaces to participants. “The NYSRP has
consistently educated some of the best artists in today’s art world. Graduates have displayed in
some of the best galleries and museums around the world.” (Artfuse, Olya Turcihin,
12/22/2014).
