Green-Wood Takes Pride
Jun 14, 2014 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm| 20; $15 for members
On Saturday, June 14, you are invited to celebrate Brooklyn Pride Week in a most unique way: on Green-Wood’s first-ever trolley tour celebrating the LGBTQ community.
Tour guide Phil Desiere — who leads tours of Greenwich Village, Central Park and other New York City sights — will introduce you to the history and beauty of this National Historic Landmark, while highlighting stories of Green-Wood permanent residents who are of significance and interest to the LGBTQ community. Stops on the tour include the final resting places of Paul Jabara, co-author of “It’s Raining Men;” composer Leonard Bernstein; Broadway lyricist Fred Ebb; 19th-century sculptor Emma Stebbins; Violet Oakley, an artist who excelled at stained glass and mural design; Louis Comfort Tiffany, the artist and businessman whose Fifth Avenue luxury jewelry store looms large in Truman Capote’s celebrated novella, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s;” and many others.
