The Franklin Park Reading Series celebrates six years of provocative lit at Brooklyn’s favorite beer garden with six acclaimed authors, from breakout new voices to established stars. Join Lev Grossman (the Magicians trilogy), James Hannaham (Delicious Foods, God Says No), Matt Sumell (Making Nice), Sarah Gerard (Binary Star), Jim Ruland (Forest of Fortune), and Michele Filgate (The Rumpus, Salon) to hear some of today’s best fiction and essays and enjoy sweet treats, cheap booze, and a raffle for lit merch and the authors’ books.

LEV GROSSMAN is the book critic for Time magazine and the author of five novels, including the international bestseller CODEX and the New York Times bestselling Magicians trilogy. A graduate of Harvard and Yale, he lives in Brooklyn with his wife and three children.
JAMES HANNAHAM is the author of the novel God Says No, which was honored by the American Library Association, and the upcoming novel Delicious Foods. He holds an MFA from the Michener Center at the University of Texas at Austin, and lives in Brooklyn, where he teaches creative writing at the Pratt Institute.
MATT SUMELL is the author of Making Nice. His fiction has appeared in Esquire, the Paris Review, Electric Literature, One Story, Noon, and elsewhere. He is a graduate of UC Irvine’s MFA program and lives in Los Angeles, California.
SARAH GERARD is the author of the novel Binary Star and the chapbook Things I Told My Mother. Her work has appeared in the New York Times, New York Magazine’s The Cut, the Paris Review Daily, Slice Magazine, the Los Angeles Review of Books, BOMB, Bookforum, and other journals. JIM RULAND is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the author of the novel Forest of Fortune, the short story collection Big Lonesome, and co-author with Scott Campbell, Jr. of Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch of Giving the Finger. He is currently collaborating with Keith Morris on his memoir My Damage about his life with Black Flag, Circle Jerks, and OFF!, which will be published next year. Jim lives in Southern California where he runs the reading series Vermin on the Mount, now in its eleventh year.
MICHELE FILGATE is an essayist, critic, and freelance writer. Her work has appeared in The Paris Review Daily, The Rumpus, Salon, Buzzfeed, Tin House, Slice, The Boston Globe, Poets & Writers, The Brooklyn Quarterly, Time Out New York, The Daily Beast, O,The Oprah Magazine, Vol. 1 Brooklyn, Capital New York, The Star Tribune, Bookslut, The Quarterly Conversation, The Brooklyn Rail, and other publications. She lives in Brooklyn.
