Franklin Park Reading Series Presents: Brooklyn Eagles Literary Prize Finalists
Sep 13, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm| Free
Franklin Park and the Brooklyn Public Library are featuring the finalists for BPL’s Brooklyn Eagles Literary Prize, recognizing the fiction and nonfiction books of the past year that best embody the Brooklyn spirit. The prize is awarded by the Brooklyn Eagles, BPL’s fun group of engaged young supporters, and the winners will be announced at the Brooklyn Classic Fall Benefit on October 21. As with all Franklin Park literary events, admission is free, and there will be a $4 draft drink special.
The series has been recommended and covered by numerous publications, including The New York Times, The New Yorker, New York Magazine, the NY Daily News, BOMB, The Rumpus, the Paris Review, Tin House, Flavorpill, Electric Literature, and the Brooklyn Paper. Time Out New York named FP NYC’s Best Literary Series, and the Village Voice gave us a Best of NYC award for Best Reading Series.
This year’s BPL Brooklyn Eagles Literary Prize shortlist includes:
Don’t Let My Baby Do Rodeo, by Boris Fishman
Lockdown on Rikers, by Mary E. Buser
Ways to Disappear, by Idra Novey
Sunny’s Nights, by Tim Sultan
Bright Lines, by Tanwi Nandini Islam
Kill ‘Em and Leave: Searching for James Brown, by James McBride
(This is an official 2016 Brooklyn Book Festival event.)
