FOOD OF THE DEAD: A CULINARY HISTORY OF FUNERAL FOOD

Green-Wood delves into the food of the dead with a talk by popular historic gastronomist Sarah Lohman on Thursday, May 5th at 6:30 p.m. Mourning traditions may have changed over time, and vary from place to place, but what they have in common is food and drink. Lohman treats guest, literally and figuratively, to the varied culinary traditions surrounding funerals throughout American history.
In Green-Wood’s Historic Chapel, guests will learn about funerary customs throughout the years before sampling some of this fare, including beer from Midas’s tomb, funeral cakes and Mormon funeral potatoes. A cash bar will also be available.
