FilmIndie Presents – Flix & Chill: Kicks
May 19 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm| $12
Join FilmIndie for our first outdoor screening of the season!
We’re screening the 2016 indie coming-of-age drama, Kicks, the story of an East Bay teen who longs for a pair of the freshest sneakers that money can buy, in hopes of escaping the reality of being poor, picked on and ignored by girls. After his prized kicks get snatched, he embarks on a dangerous quest to get them back. The film stars Jahking Guillory, Mahershala Ali, Kofi Siriboe, Christopher Wallace Jr. and Christopher Meyer.
This overlooked film makes our must-see list for tackling a range of discussion-worthy themes: masculinity, violence, the obsessive sneaker culture and the coming-of-age experience for urban teens. It also beautifully showcases something we don’t get to see often in film: black male friendship. Come see why it made the list!
Doors @7PM | Movie @8PM
Tickets include admission to screening + museum, movie snacks and complimentary beer (with donations), courtesy of Brooklyn Brewery – all proceeds go to to City Reliquary, a nonprofit museum that traces the history of NYC’s boroughs.(21+)
