April 7 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Following recent political clashes over immigration and border control, the hit production of ¡FIGARO! (90210) returns to the New York stage with its unique mix of uproarious comedy and biting social commentary for a strictly limited engagement from April 7th through April 23rd only at The Duke on 42nd Street, (229 West 42nd Street). This adaptation of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro blends the original score with a new English (and Spanglish) libretto by Vid Guerrerio and recasts the title character and his fiancée as undocumented workers in a mansion of a Beverly Hills real estate mogul and his actress wife. Directed by Melissa Crespo, ¡FIGARO! (90210) gives Mozart a contemporary kick with this amped-up, pared-down two-and-a-half hour musical that infuses the timeless comedy of the original with an especially timely political relevance.
Previous performances of ¡Figaro! (90210) were hailed by The New York Times as “blasphemous, brilliant… fearlessly written… uproariously funny” and “audacious and entertaining… Mozart would have loved this show!” while Opera News raved “dynamic, thought-provoking, respectful, and, yes, hilarious…wickedly clever and pointedly topical,” and the New York Post acclaimed “sparkling… as relevant as CNN and as sexy as an episode of Revenge.”
Tickets are $89, and can be purchased by visiting www.Figaro90210.com or www.Dukeon42.org, by phone at 646-223-3010, or in person at the box office.
