Feeling Gloomy presents Never Wave Bye-Bye
January 20 @ 10:30 pm - January 21 @ 3:00 am| $6
In January 2016 we lost David Bowie to absolutely everyone’s shock. It began a year filled with many more beloved musical icons passing and set the tone for 2016, but we never really forgot how shocked we were the day we lost Bowie. We made the decision then to turn a dance party we’d been planning into an emergency tribute to Bowie, because his music has always been a fixture of Feeling Gloomy and of our lives, and it felt right. It was an incredibly moving experience to see how much it meant to fans who made it to the party. One year on, we still bitterly miss Bowie and you can still hear his music at each Feeling Gloomy (and you always will). We decided that to mark one year since his passing, we’d like to do another Bowie-themed party. Last year De Blasio declared 1/20 to be Bowie Day, so we’ll be throwing our party on Bowie Day 2017.
Expect to hear every fan favorite Bowie song, loads of deep cuts, and a few assorted songs by contemporaries and friends of Bowie’s. Feeling Gloomy DJs Gordon and Nathaniel Gloom have not gotten any more cheerful in 12 months (surprise), and they’re ready again to serve up the best anthems from every era of Bowie (yes including his grunge phase) for your cathartic dancing pleasure.
SOUND AND VISION
David Bowie wasn’t merely a musical artist, his look was a huge part of his legacy. We’ll have visuals all night by Doug Dealer of The Teenage Guide to Popularity / Young Adult Friction to help us remember Bowie’s many looks and film roles, and to give you something more interesting than a couple of DJs to stare at while you cut a rug.
OH! YOU PRETTY THINGS
Get in the spirit of the event and memorialize yourself in our Bowie-themed photo booth. Don’t feel like dressing up? We’ll have face painters on-hand to help you recreate that Ziggy Stardust look
THIS IS NOT AMERICA
We know, times are tough, and January 20th is Inauguration Day. So if you can’t afford our cover charge, we’ll be giving away a limited number of free tickets. Keep an eye on our Facebook event for details on how and when to enter.
