Demystifying Government: Judicial Jamboree

May 14 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

demystifying govt 3

We all know this country is a ?? right now. But how did it get this way, and what hope do we have for it to change? Honestly, how does the government even work??

Demystifying Government is a series of talks to try to answer those questions — for all of us who may have forgotten a thing or two from civics class. The first three programs will cover our three branches, starting all the way at the top. We’ll have short clever presentations from comedians, lawyers, policy wonks, and professors, then a moderated conversation, followed by audience Q&A.

Our panelists include:

? 40-year veteran criminal attorney, author, and president of the Kings County Criminal Bar Association Joyce David on the lawyer as first responder.

? Tenants rights attorney and DG co-producer Megan O’Byrne (who claims she is truly unqualified to be producing or presenting on this panel, though to prepare she did read a lot of news and law review articles) on The National Injunction: good for us now, bad for us before; or, why a dude in Hawaii has all the power and should he really?

? Public high school graduate with a copy of Keynote Stephen Bruckert on Pure Applesauce: Antonin Scalia’s writing with the physical manifestation of the devil peering in his window.

? Comedian, bestselling author, on-air pundit, Democratic Convention speechwriter, and recovering attorney Jeff Kreisler on What is Originalism, besides a way to get whatever you want and kick Thomas Jefferson in the groin?, or: “Come ON!!”

The panel will be moderated by comedian, producer, and lawyer Seena Jon, who is excited to tell us all how awesome and important it is to watch C-SPAN.

? The event is FREE FREE FREE ?
