David Henry and Joe Henry present Furious Cool: Richard Pryor and the World That Made Him (In conversation with Colum McCann)

Nov 21, 2013 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

| Free

Richard Pryor was arguably the single most influential performer of the second half of the twentieth century, and certainly the most successful black actor/comedian ever. Controversial and enigmatic, Pryor’s performances opened up a new world of possibilities, merging fantasy with angry reality in ways previously unthinkable. In their groundbreaking and revelatory work Furious Cool, Grammy winning singer/songwriter and producer Joe Henry and his brother, screenwriter David Henry, bring Pryor to life, providing an in-depth appreciation of his talent and his influence, as well as an examination of the forces that shaped both his persona and his art. Novelist Colum McCann (winner of the National Book Award for Let The Great World Spin) writes “Richard Pryor was chain lightning to everything around him. He shocked the world through with human electricity… Furious Cool captures it brilliantly.” Joe Henry and David Henry talk about the book with Colum McCann at Greenlight Bookstore tonight in their only New York City event.
