Darrow Fletcher (backed by the Brooklyn Rhythm Band), Dig Deeper Residents Mr. Robinson and DJ Honky
Jan 11, 2014 @ 9:00 pm - Jan 12, 2014 @ 1:00 am| $15
Dig Deeper is honored to present Chicago soul legend Darrow Fletcher in his second NYC appearance in 45 years (and his second appearance at Dig Deeper!). Darrow will be backed by the Brooklyn Rhythm Band, who will open the night with their own set.
Darrow started his recording career at age fourteen – his expressive voice and impressive catalog of work across eight different labels has made him a favorite of soul fans and DJs around the world. In addition to his own records, sang backing vocals for countless other artists including Dig Deeper alums the Green Berets when one member was in Vietnam.
At this show, in addition to his 1960s classics like “The pain gets a little deeper”, “My young misery”, and “What good am I without you” – which absolutely floored us at his show with us in 2010 – Darrow will be debuting for the first time some of the material he recorded with Ray Charles in the mid 1970s, lost for decades until recently issued by Kent Records in the UK.
When we first brought Darrow to town in 2010, it was Otis Clay who finally put us in touch after we’d searched high and low for him for 2 years. Since then, his shows stateside have sadly been few and far between, although he has wowed audiences in the UK.
As an added bonus, we will welcome guest DJ George Rodriguez from Los Angeles, one of the resident DJs of the great Angel City Soul Club – having had the pleasure of hearing him spin on several occasions, we’re in for a treat! As always, Dig Deeper DJs Mr. Robinson and DJ Honky will also spin before, between, and after the live sets.
