Dancing in the Parks: Bushwick Community Festival
May 30, 2015 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm| FREE
We are presenting an afternoon of dance with local artists, students, and neighbors hosted by the arts organization, Moving Spirits Inc. We are dedicated to evolving social change through dance performances and community engagement. This community-centered event features a FREE dance workshop open to ALL ages followed by FREE performances by local dance companies and community organizations. Between performances, students from El Puente will lead community dialogues inviting the audience to learn about and investigate a range of social justice themes. These students are currently working with Piper Anderson – artist, writer, educator, and Founder of Create Forward – to develop a collaborative facilitation model rooted in their own interests and experiences.
Performing companies include Moving Spirits, Inc., Sydnie L. Mosley Dances, Alpha Omega Theatrical Dance Company, and Denae Hannah/DNA Comedy. Local organizations performing include students of the Arts & Literacy Program, students from the Beacon Center for Arts & Leadership, members of El Puente, and The Black and Gold Marching Elite.
Our goal is to inspire children and families to get involved in the ARTS, share stories with others in the community and gain resources for local community programming.
We will start the afternoon with a free dance workshop beginning at 2pm.
