Satellite Magazine’s monthly speaker series focuses (mostly) on cities. In July, we’ll hear about:

Brooklyn’s waterfront. Brooklyn Historical Society and Brooklyn Bridge Park recently partnered to create a series of historic signs throughout the waterfront park, as well as an accompanying website. BHS Director of Public History Julie Golia will discuss how the two organizations peeled back the layers of history along the waterfront, and share some of the project’s most interesting and surprising stories.

The intersection of science and art. Julia Buntaine will speak about science-based art and her publication SciArt in America. She will also introduce the new SciArt Center, a physical space in New York where scientists and artists can meet, collaborate, and experiment.

Jobs and housing in Brownsville. Rasmia Kirmani-Frye, Director of the Brownsville Partnership, will speak about helping Brownsville residents secure stable employment and housing.

Music in Madagascar. Banning Eyre will present music and impressions from his recent field work in Madagascar, working for public radio’s Afropop Worldwide. The Indian Ocean island’s music is diverse, unexpected and, finally, mind-blowing. The presentation will include guitar performances.
