On July 1 the Brooklyn Museum’s Target First Saturday
celebrates Independence Day with programming
inspired by the exhibition We Wanted a Revolution: Black
Radical Women, 1965–85. Highlights include a screening
of Flag Wars followed by a conversation with director
and We Wanted a Revolution artist Linda Goode Bryant,
a Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon with The Black Lunch Table,
poetry by Morgan Parker, and music by Tamara Renée,
Billy Dean Thomas, and DJ Reborn.
Throughout 2017, Target First Saturdays highlight
female-identified and gender-nonconforming artists
and organizations that challenge gender conventions.
This programming is part of A Year of Yes: Reimagining
Feminism at the Brooklyn Museum, which celebrates the
10th anniversary of the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for
Feminist Art.
